Six Hour Canoe Techniques
Revised Frame
Angle cut instead of close fit around the chinelog
The frame in Section 7 of BTSHC has just two gussets, one on each joint. We
recommend four gussets, two on each joint.
They also cut the chine log with a close fit. We cut a diagonal off the 70
degree corner, and the opening serves as limber holes. The strength is in the
double gusset, and the adjacent plywood bottom and sides. There is no strength
requirement between the frame and the chine log. Therefore this does not in
fact weaken the boat.
Also, for boats without decks or air tanks, we cut a little shelf in the side
frame, as shown. This makes the boats stackable.
