Wooden Boat Festival
Parents and Kids Build a Canoe in Two Days

Assembly, three teams share this canopy

The Wooden Boat Fest is a 2-day boat/canoe building event in June for children and adults that emphasizes boat building skills, canoeing skills, tool handling, and teamwork. NMHA has conducted the Fest from 1999-2006 at the Monmouth Boat Club in Red Bank with the help of volunteers and NMHA officers and members. Approximately 20 children and 10 adults from various community organizations have participated each year.

Over 50 six hour canoes have already been built through NMHA programs and more are on the way.

NMHA has held wooden boat building events at other venues such as Riverside Gardens and the Red Bank Children's Cultural Center. In order to support maximum portability of the program, the Sunfield Foundation has generously donated tools, canopies and a tool trailer to NMHA.

NMHA is now ready to take the wooden boat fest show on the road!

Our History Page and Charles Ladoulis's essay have a lot of details about this event.
